1 person evaluated in Houston apartment fire, authorities say

A blaze Monday morning displaced several families at a west Houston apartment complex . 

Authorities were called around 7:45 a.m. to the fire in the 9900 block of Richmond Avenue, according to the city. The flames originated from an apartment unit and spread, causing the number of responding firefighters to double at the scene, a Houston Fire Department official said. 

Firefighters capped the blaze sometime before 9 a.m. Around 15 apartments were damaged, according to the department. 

At least one civilian was evaluated, but no one was transported to the hospital. The Red Cross was also contacted.
